Cancer Council Victoria launched the “In Your Hands” cervical screening campaign this month

It continues a decades-long effort to improve the prevention and early detection of cervical cancer in Victoria and maintains our vision of cervical cancer being eliminated in this state by as early as 2030, through HPV vaccination, screening, and treatment.

Emphysema Ad

We've re-released the iconic Quit “Emphysema” ad. Despite being nearly 20 years old, this ad will resonate with a new generation through its compelling narrative inviting the listener to imagine what it feels like to have the deadly lung disease, emphysema.

Investment in research into food and cancer

Since 1936, Cancer Council Victoria has supported research into cancer causes. Each year we invest in projects investigating treatment, screening, and primary prevention. We have built our internal research capacity, including founding Australia’s first cancer registry in 1940, and establishing our cancer epidemiology and behavioural sciences centres in 1986, which made original discoveries and facilitate global collaborations.

We’ve taken smoking from ‘normal’ to ‘uncommon’ and we can do the same with vaping – here’s how

Vaping is a pressing public health issue. While adult smoking rates continue to fall, vaping rates are rising. Some 7% of adults now vape daily, up nearly three-fold since 2019. Most alarmingly, the rate of current vape use – on a daily, weekly or monthly basis – among 18-to-24-year-olds has climbed from 5% in 2019 to 21% in 2023.
