New Cancer Council Victoria research has revealed most Victorian adults who drink are not aware of many of the types of cancer caused by alcohol, with less than two out of ten identifying alcohol as a cause of breast cancer and fewer than three in ten aware that alcohol causes mouth cancer and throat cancer.

Smokers incorrectly believe menthol cigarettes are less damaging than non-menthol cigarettes, according to Cancer Council Victoria research published today in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health and funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council.

Funding of $1.5 million has been announced on International Clinical Trials Day today to support Victorian researchers to develop clinical trials that can improve the quality of life of people diagnosed with cancer and facilitate equitable access to trials that support holistic patient care.

New research has revealed that advertising spend on sugary drinks is almost double the spend on all other drink options combined, contradicting the beverage industry’s own rhetoric and sales data that shows consumer preference for low and no added sugar drink options.

Ms Boersma said the partnership was a recipe for success and encouraged others to join her in hosting an Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.
