Facebook has created tools that enable you to raise funds for us via the social network. You can do this by:
Any donations made to Cancer Council Victoria using these tools will be received via PayPal Giving Fund and sent to Cancer Council Victoria within 90 days. Receipts will also be issued by PayPal Giving Fund as they collect and distribute these donations.
Because of this two-step process, we are not provided with your contact details. Please let us know if you are fundraising for us via Facebook or supportercare@cancervic.org.au so we can get in touch and thank you.
Create a birthday fundraiser
Leading up to your birthday, Facebook will prompt you to ask your friends to donate funds to your nominated charity in lieu of a gift. This birthday fundraising page is like a Facebook event, with the addition of a goal donation amount. It allows your friends and family to donate via PayPal or credit card to Cancer Council Victoria in just a few simple clicks.
You can share your birthday fundraiser on your Facebook feed and invite your friends and family to donate to Cancer Council Victoria.
Follow these steps to create a birthday fundraiser:
- Select 'Cancer Council Victoria' as the not-for-profit you would like to raise money for.
- Select the overall amount of money you would like to raise.
- Select the date you want your fundraiser to end.
- Add a title and description for your fundraiser.
- Let us know via Facebook or supportercare@cancervic.org.au that you have created a fundraiser so we can say thank you.
Create a fundraising page
You can support Cancer Council Victoria by setting up a fundraising page at any time. This is similar to the birthday fundraiser, however, this page can be created for personal reasons.
To create a fundraiser, visit Facebook or follow these steps:
- Click 'Fundraisers' in the left menu of your news feed.
- Click 'Raise Money' and select 'Charity'.
- Search for and select 'Cancer Council Victoria' as your charity.
- Fill in the fundraiser details and choose a cover photo.
- Click 'Create'.
- Let us know via Facebook or supportercare@cancervic.org.au that you have created a fundraiser so we can say thank you.
Add a donation button to your posts
The 'Donate' button is a quick way for people to donate to support Cancer Council Victoria, without leaving Facebook. To add a donate button to your post, follow these steps:
- Click 'What’s on your mind?' on your news feed or timeline.
- Click the '…' button and scroll down to select 'Support non-profit'.
- Search for and select 'Cancer Council Victoria' from the list of charities to support.
- Add some wording to your post about why you are supporting us.
- Tag '@CancerCouncilVictoria' so we can personally thank you.
- Click 'Share'.
Please note, if you are taking part in a Cancer Council fundraising event such as Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea or Girls’ Night In, we do not recommend that you add a Facebook donate button to your posts. We are not currently able to sync these donations to your Cancer Council Victoria fundraising page.
If you are participating in one of our events, we recommend that you share your Cancer Council fundraising page on Facebook instead. Please contact us for more support in this area.
