About the program
The Financial Counselling Program provides people affected by cancer with access to a financial counsellor who can provide practical advice and guidance to help manage the cost of cancer.
Our financial counsellor can answer questions around public and private healthcare, out-of-pocket costs, government benefits, superannuation, insurance, credit and debt issues.
They empower people through information, so they can make informed decisions about their health and long-term financial security.
Eligibility criteria
To ensure we’re supporting those who need us most, we are only able to accept referrals where the following criteria are met:
- The person is undergoing treatment for cancer
- They are articulating high levels of distress about their financial situation as a direct result of their current diagnosis.
- Concern that their expenses will exceed their income during their cancer treatment
- Uncertainty about what income they will have during their cancer treatment
You can refer your patient directly to us for financial counselling by completing this support referral form and one of our support staff will contact your patient directly within two business days.
Alternatively, people affected by cancer can access our financial counselling program by calling 13 11 20. It’s confidential, independent, and free for all Victorians.
