2015 investigation of parking
Many people affected by cancer tell us that parking at treatment centres is an ongoing problem. The number and frequency of appointments can result in financial strain and accessing information about parking options and costs can be difficult.
Cancer Council Victoria undertook a comprehensive study of parking at Victorian cancer treatment centres between March and May 2015.
We investigated:
- parking provided at, or near, all cancer treatment centres in Victoria
- the cost and availability of parking
- whether subsidies or reimbursements were available
- how information was given about parking – what is provided, when and by who

2016 website parking information audit
In 2016 Cancer Council Victoria conducted an audit on the website content for 21 health organisations responsible for 53 hospitals with fee-paying parking. The audit follows a directive in November 2015 by Victorian Health Minister Jill Hennessy to Victorian public hospitals to review their car parking fees and publish and publicise formal policies that will reduce the burden on vulnerable patients, in particular those who frequently attend hospital.
Recommendations for online content for visitors include the following: map of onsite parking and surrounding area parking, evidence of rates (cost), parking limits, availability of car parks, evidence of concession details and eligibility (including frequency of use), public transport access or shuttle services, drop off zones and evidence of a formal parking policy.
