Promoting healthy habits for healthy futures
In just its second year running, Vic Kids Eat Well has gone from strength to strength, with 1,000 Victorian schools, sports clubs, and community organisations now joining the movement.
Supported by the Victorian Government and delivered by Cancer Council Victoria’s Achievement Program, in partnership with Nutrition Australia, the initiative boosts healthy food and drink options in community organisations. With 13 cancers known to be linked to overweight and obesity, the movement helps give children the healthy start they need to learn, play and be active.
Boisdale Consolidated School is one of many who have embraced Vic Kids Eat Well’s “bite-sized” healthy swaps. As part of this initiative, their canteen has been loaded with freshly prepared meals and delicious snacks, and students now bring reuseable drink bottles from home to refill with water.
“Our canteen now only serves what parents want their kids to eat,” shared one committee member. “Fresh fruits and vegetables, salads and meats, baked goods made from scratch, hidden veg pastries, rice paper rolls, and home cooked weekly specials send wonderful aromas around the school.”
Students at Boisdale and kids all around Victoria are responding positively to the new healthy and delicious food and drink options through Vic Kids Eat Well.
