Providing financial counselling and legal support

There are a range of unexpected costs that can occur during cancer diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.

In the last year, more than 10,000 calls made to our 13 11 20 cancer information and support line were related to practical concerns including financial and legal issues.

“Our referral services can help connect people to legal and financial counselling when they need it most,” said Head of Cancer Strategy and Support, Danielle Spence.

During the year Cancer Council Victoria joined with Victorian-based law firms to provide pro-bono legal support to vulnerable people who have advanced cancer.

“Through this service we can assist people with basic Wills, establishing powers of attorney and a medical treatment decision maker,” said Ms Spence

“We understand cancer affects your whole life and we are here to support people eligible for the service and are grateful to the lawyers who volunteer their time.”
