Our commitment to supporting the Victorian Aboriginal Cancer Journey Strategy

In May, the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO) launched the Victorian Aboriginal Cancer Journey Strategy identifying the key areas requiring investment and development to improve cancer outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

The strategy also aims to identify where improvements and changes are needed in the regular healthcare system.

Cancer Council Victoria is proud to be a key partner on this groundbreaking initiative. At the launch, CEO, Todd Harper AM signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with VACCHO, recognising our commitment to working together to implement the strategy.

The strategy focuses on four key outcomes including self-determination, a strong and supported Aboriginal workforce, cultural connection, and a culturally safe and responsive health system.

It is hoped that through our continued partnership with VACCHO we can work to address the disparity between Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples and improve cancer outcomes for members of this community.
