Elucidating the dual functions of YAP in breast cancer

Lead researcher

Dr Lan Nguyen

Institution
Monash University

Tumour type:
Breast

Years funded
2017-2019

What is the project?

This project employs an innovative approach that synergises computational and experimental methods to decipher the function of YAP in breast cancer. This will likely lead to rational ways to classify patients into groups who may (or may not) benefit from targeted therapy directed at YAP.

What are you trying to achieve?

This project employs an innovative approach that uses computational and experimental methods to understand how YAP, an important protein involved in breast cancer development, makes specific decisions that lead cancer cells to either grow or die. Based on this understanding, I will predict individualised therapeutic strategies that provide informed decisions as to when using agents directed at YAP would be useful for patients. I will then validate these predictions in the laboratory.
