Cigarette pack inserts are small cards mandated to appear inside tobacco packs that provide information on the benefits of quitting and advice on how to quit. Canada was the first country to require pack inserts in text form in 2000 and these were updated in 2012 to require colour images and text. Research has found that the Canadian pack inserts have promoted sustained engagement among Canadian smokers and assist quit attempts. Using population surveys, qualitative research, observational studies and consumer testing methods, the current research program investigates aspects of how this policy might be implemented in a strengthened form in Australia.
