Evaluation of Western Australia’s ‘Alcohol. Think Again.’ public communication campaign

The ‘Alcohol. Think Again’ program forms part of the State Government’s comprehensive approach to reduce harm from alcohol in Western Australia. The next campaign of the ‘Alcohol and Health’ stream of the program launched in June 2023. The communication strategy includes a mass-reach, whole-of-population awareness component, including a targeted component to motivate adults who exceed the NHMRC Australian Alcohol Guidelines to reduce their alcohol use. The first wave of the campaign ran state-wide from June to August across all major media channels including TV, radio, outdoor, digital and social media. The campaign evaluation is being undertaken by CBRC researchers using a repeated cross-sectional design with comparison state, and will primarily aim to assess the population impact of the campaign on alcohol use among the target audience of 25 to 54 year-olds. The evaluation will also assess proximal outcomes (such as campaign awareness and message takeout) and intermediate indicators (such as changes in knowledge, beliefs, attitudes, and intentions).
