“When I lost my hair during treatment, I felt like everyone saw me as a ‘patient’. Having a wig meant I could get on with my daily life.” - Olivia, Wig Service client
One of the more confronting aspects of cancer treatment is losing your hair. It takes away from you the decision regarding who knows about your diagnosis. Wearing a wig, a headscarf or beanie, can put that decision back into your hands and often it is all you need especially when going out. For many, this will be the first time they have ever had to deal with wigs or headscarves, so knowing how to select a wig, or style a scarf to suit your face can be daunting.
Cancer Council has recently released on our website six new videos to help you style a wig or headscarf. Thank you to Dr Susan Carland, Dianne Haynes from Celebrity Brandz, and our wonderful model Kaitlyn for working with us on the following videos:
- Benefits of wearing a synthetic wig
- Fitting a wig
- Looking after and styling a wig
- Wearing a headscarf
- Styling a rectangle scarf
- Styling a square scarf
It doesn’t matter where you live in Victoria, Our Wig Service is available across the state. Call Cancer Council 13 11 20 or email askanurse@cancervic.org.au to find out more.
